Ballygiblin 5k

Hi all, the Ballygiblin 5k took place today at 11am, what a professional job by Johnny O'Sullivan and his crew today, it was a very much enjoyed race by all with plenty of refreshments after, 195 people completed the distance with all proceeds going towards the building of  a walk around the GAA pitch in Ballygiblin , if it was your 1st time out in the area you will see that the road accommodates alot of traffic for which parents walk up and down while the kids are training in the pitch, the project is to build a walk to provide safety for anyone walking out in the area. The men's race was won by Peter Hanrahan Togher 16.36, 2nd David Ryan Clonmel 16.44 and 3rd John Collins Skibbereen 16.53, the women's race was won by Aisling Moran Leevale 18.45, 2nd  Grainne O'Callaghan Glenroe 19.37 and 3rd Aine Moran Leevale 19.53.
The club had 6 runners competing today,
9th John Murphy 18.11 (1st O40)
14th Brian O Hagan 19.08
15th Brian O Connor 19.22
16th Darren Flynn 19.23
28th Joan Ennis 20.32 (1st O45)
35th Sean Freeman 21.38
Great running by all.

John Treacy Dungarvan 10

Last Sunday we headed to Dungarvan for the 1st 10 miler of the year, expectations and hopes were high in everyone's minds. We had 13 members running and unfortunately a couple missing due to injury. With warmups done we all headed to the start line but unfortunately there was nearly a 15min delay due to the unfortunate funeral taking place and as we would be passing the church the guards delayed the race, so all warmup went out the window as we were lined up the heavens opened and pelted every runner with hailstones. Eventually we were sent on our way,  every single runner frozen. For the 1st 2.5miles we were constantly battered by driving hailstones and then all of sudden just stopped and the sun popped it's head out from behind the clouds, what bliss to feel a bit of heat on our frozen legs and arms. Passing Maria McCambridge in trouble before you get to the 3 mile is not what the everyday runner expects to see but it just goes to show the elite are vulnerable aswell as us. We on the other hand had all 13 pass the finish line, with some elated with their times,

Kealan O'Connor 60:43
John Murphy 63:11
Don Pyne 65:36
Darren Flynn 65:50 (PB)
Clo Fitzgibbon 68:57 (PB)
Joan Ennis 69:16 (PB)
Maurice Tobin 70:10
Michael Pratt 75:45 (PB)
Sean Freeman 76:32
Mike Ennis 78:49
Mike Hayes 82:42
Emilija Dorgan 84:42
Yvonne O'Brien 89:02

Again WestWaterford AC pulled out all the stops with regard to the race, facilities  and refreshments, it's one race you can pencil in every year to your race calender.
Hopefully we have set ourselves up for a good year. Keep up the hardwork, it does pay off.

Sunday, 5 January 2014

Right Lads and Lassies,
3 weeks today till Dungarvan '10', hope training is going well now, heads up on some of the training runs during the week,
Sat - Long run, not for the faint hearted as I found out yesterday, pace is a bit faster(7.30 - 7.40/ mile) but will bring any runner on in leaps and bounds.
Sun - Long run again, either you can run out to corrin and take in a couple of laps which include the driving range, great for building strength as hills everywhere or head out on the road taking in Castlelyons and Rathcormac.
Tue - Speedwork in Colemans @7pm, a must for every runner who wants to improve.
Thurs - Hill repeats, across from old Opel garage, again all runners should think about this session.
We will post a proper schedule on the blog in the next week when all days, times and sessions are finalised.
Hi All,
Just one for the calender, Ballygiblin 5k is on Feb 23rd, I'll b measuring the course hopefully next weekend so I'll let everyone know what the course is like. Johnny O'Sullivan is pushing this race to raise funds for a recreational walk out around Ballygiblin GAA pitch so as parents can go for a walk when they drop their kids for training instead of sitting in the car. Johnny hopes it will encourage the parents into exercise.
